Students who have signed up for the programme are assigned a peer wellness mentor (PWM) who provides them with social and wellness support, information, and guidance. Mentors serve as cheerleaders and role models to our first years.
Students who have signed up for the FYE programme are assigned a peer academic mentor (PAM) who provides basic academic support, information, and guidance to first-year students. Being part of the mentorship group provides a strong sense of accountability, peer support and motivation.
The First-Year Experience seminars are a year-long, extended orientation course taught to all first-year students. It includes self-paced or facilitator-led seminars designed to support you in your transition to academic life at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The course can be accessed via the Moodle platform. All registered students will have access to this course. Details about the facilitator led-seminars will be communicated via Moodle.
The Orientation programme is an essential component of the FYE programme and will run a week before the beginning of the semester. During this week, you will learn about your majors, university policies and about resources available to support you during your studies. You will also be introduced to the FYE programme and connect with your mentor
